Hello Erik, I know what you mean about offers to help that don't develop into actual work. I responded to a request on the Crypt list to help with the AGA Convention. I offered at last years convention several times to help. I offer again to help with the convention. All of the information that I have seen so far has been on the AGA contest. This is my own peculiarity, but I am not at all interested in the contest. I also need to be conscious of what I would take on. I?m neck deep and sinking in several local and national clubs for the very reasons that you mention in you recent post. IMO, the hardest part of club work is finding folks that will volunteer their time. The second hardest part is finding appropriate jobs for the volunteers ? jobs that fit the ability level, comfort level and free time available. I would recommend that one of the AGA committee members organize a volunteer drive. The beginning of a list is already in place so it shouldn't be too hard to start. Privately canvas the volunteers to see what their interest is and what they might be willing to do. Try to match these interests with the open jobs. One man?s ugly little job is another?s pastime? Prizes and such are great provided they don?t become a chore. The purpose of the AGA is met by the contest (to increase interest in aquatic gardening. to promote fellowship among its members.) The contest is a good thing ? I recognize this despite my apathy towards it. Rather than cut all of the bait and run, you might want to restructure the event to suit you rather than someone else. Like you said ? folks are coming without trinkets, boxes and bags. I admire your efforts and hope to see you in Chattanooga.
