Hi Phil, There are no clear rules for paludariums. I can tell you that I would not judge a tank with a simple piece of wood with some plants on it as highly as I would a tank that was otherwise of equal quality, but had a true land area. I also give higher value to a tank with an attractive, natural-looking land-water interface. I would LOVE to re-write both the guidelines and judging criteria for both the biotope and paludarium categories sometime before the next competition. Care to give me a hand with it after we get through the convention? We could standardize what we expect to see in the paludarium category (though that category really hasn't had many problems) and give better structure and much-needed guidance for the biotope category. I would also like very much to see us go to a judging scale of 200 rather than 100. The ratios could be exactly the same, but it would be MUCH easier when sorting out placings to have a little more "juggling" room. As I said to Erik, in one of the categories this year, most of the tanks that I ranked in the top 10 SHOULD be very close together in score. But because we have to rank them 1-10, we end up with one having a score of 100 and the 10th place tank having a score of 91, even if they are much closer together than that in terms of quality. But all of this is stuff we can discuss after we get the "convention monster" off our plates! Is wood sticking out of the water sufficient to qualify as a dry plant substrate? _________________________________________________________________ Want to read Hotmail messages in Outlook?
