Hi. Got this forwarded into my mailbox today. Just so y'all know, normally I respond to these messages as follows: "Thanks for writing and asking, but sorry, I don't in general include links to other sites unless they're directly relevant. It is too much work to prune out the dead links later." I'd probably also add to Steve that there are several sites that have listings of links to fish clubs, such as Fish Link Central and the FAQ. Now, this is a little different because I've never gotten any requests to do this on the AGA pages. So I'm forwarding it to the MCM for comments, if any. - Erik --- Erik Olson eriko at wrq.com ---------- Forwarded message ---------- X-Priority: 3 (Normal) From: Steve Szabo <stevesz@erols.com> To: eriko@elmer.wrq.com, nfrank@mindspring.com, krandall@world.std.com, dreiner@ice.onlinesys.com, rcashin@juno.com Date: Mon, 20 Jul 1998 20:54:01 -0400 Subject: WebRing and MailList Hello AGA! I am thinking about doing two things with regard to clubs and the Internet (actually, I've already started on both). First, I am creating a web ring for fish clubs (societies). A web ring links sites together and also has a central repository with a list of all sites in the ring. A person interested in clubs can use the ring to get to one that is in their area, and possibly become a member. A web ring has several choices for the surfer. They can pick a random site, they can go to the next site in the ring or the previous site, they can choose to see the next 5 sites or the previous 5 sites in the ring, or they can go to the index of sites and choose one from the list. Give me a holler if you are interested, and I will send you the pertinent information once the administrative details have been completed and the ring is ready to start. The other thing I am trying to setup, and it is basically waiting for a server to become available to me, is a maillist. This list will be a restricted list, meaning that membership will need to be granted by the owner of the list (me) in order to become a participant. The participants will be limited to those who are involved in any way with the administration of a club or society. The purpose will be to exchange ideas about the running of fish clubs. A place to go when help is needed, a place to help others in need. Again, email me of your interest (a separate email please!) and I will contact you when it is ready to go. I would expect that this will take more than a month to get off the ground, and even longer to really get going with a good number of participants. \\Steve// For tropical fish and aquariums in MA, visit: http://www.petsforum.com/was/ If you are in the DC Metro area, visit: http://www.pvas.com If your interest lies in dogs, visit: http://www.petsforum.com/ace/
