New Members and the mailing

She said she mailed me her membership check (a cashiers check) on March 21
and wondered why she hasn't yet received anything. She is very anxious to
start reading and learning about aquatic plants. Imagine how those people
who joined in January feel.

Anyway, after I told her about the publication schedule, how a new member
normally has to wait 4-8 weeks, etc, she kept pressing me for a date when
she might receive her first magazine. Because I did not want to open up the
issue that it might be a while, I told her that I will look into the
possibility of sending her the last issue published (the one dated Dec 98
that was mailed in Jan). 

Then it occurred to me that this would be a great thing to send to all
members - immmediatedly upon receipt of their membership. This would be
next best thing to instant gratification!

The magazine can got out together with Jack's card... but of course, both
would be in an envelope. (and the card can be 8 1/2 by 11.)
The new membership would start with that issue and continue for 5 more
issues. The new member would be told that the next issue would come in
approximately 8-12 weeks and then bimonthly thereafter. I know, I am being
optimistic :-)  I also realize that Jack (or his designee would have to do
this mailing) and he (or the designee would have to get a supply of the
last issue. Any extras can be mailed back to Diana to keep with back issues
and if he runs out of the last issue, the new member can get a post card.

PS. The reason she mailed it to me is that she says FAMA lists ME as the
person that receives new memberships. Can someone get that changed.
