I think we should go ahead and advertise in AFM and TFH. (AGA already has a free ad in FAMA under "Organizations"). I would like to see the AGA expand and reach more people. I also hope that with a larger membership and a larger base to work from, we'll get more volunteers. I have someone else in mind to head advertising other than Ted Coletti. Cheryl Hofman, a new member from Oak Point, TX, has worked in the publishing industry for years. She has volunteered to work for TAG. Neil and I thought she could help out Bob Day, but my impression is that he doesn't want the help. Neil, what do you think of asking Cheryl to be in charge of advertising? Recently I called one of our members about an article he wrote. He expressed concerns that the AGA has an elitist reputation that puts people off. It was also my impression that AGA was an elitist organization before I joined. The first time I went to an AGA gathering at an NEC convention several years ago I was rather apprehensive, wondering what the people would be like even though I already knew Karen and Jack from BAS. I would like to see us work at changing this perception. I have a couple of things in mind. I have thought about: (a) beyond publishing one article a month for beginners, doing an expanded issue this coming year with several articles especially for beginners; (b) publishing a collection of articles from past issues of TAG with the beginner in mind. It could be called "The Best of TAG for Beginners." (The Rainbowfish Study Group puts out a magazine called "Rainbow Times". They also publish a collection of past articles entitled "The Best Of Rainbow Times" which has sold well). As I see it, we would choose one option or the other. What do you all think? > > > Does anyone have an idea what a years ad > would cost in each of the 3 mags? I don't, but I'll e-mail AFM and TFH to find out.
