Call me a bit skeptical, but I wonder if it's possible to draw even 50
people for no "big name" speakers.  So is the plan to headline, say,
folks like you, Karen, and Charlene as the speakers on the first one?
That might work.

Another feature we could publicise based on that time would be a sneak
preview of the showcase (which would be closed at that point for judging).

October will be interesting for me as well; there's a big show in Portland
during that time (I don't know which weekend).
