With Filemaker, it would be a cinch to find all the members whose renewal is coming up and print out a renewal message. If we don't want to do renewal mailings, it might work to print the renewal list in TAG. I also am volunteering to help Jack with the transfer of data. I also have the questionnaire that Olga Betts developed, and we need to make decisions about using it. The questionaire data should definitely be put in a database manager. Below is some (not all) of the discussion on using Filemaker: Date: Fri, 10 May 1996 14:52:39 -0500 Reply-To: aroid-l@mobot.org Originator: aroid-l@mobot.org Sender: aroid-l@mobot.org Precedence: bulk From: donburns@shadow.net (Don Burns) To: krombhol@felix.TECLink.Net Subject: Plant Records/Indexing Schemes Status: In the middle of the discussion thread on labels someone asked about plant inventory schemes. I have a couple of file formats acquired from netters, one of them being Clark Riley and the other Rob LeBlanc, that are quite good. They run with the application called FileMaker. These files are in the Macintosh format but are translatable into a PC format, and FileMaker for Windoz will do this. These formats were shared with me freely with no strings attached, so if anyone is interested let me know and I'll email the formats. Just remember that you must have the FileMaker application to use them. Don Don Burns Plantation, Florida (near Ft. Membership is a BIG job. I think anything we can do to make it easier and/or more efficient is great. Even with Paul offering to make it into a database, I would think it would be better if both he and Jack were using the same software Karen ....Yes, an XL file can be imported directly into FileMaker. If you need any help with it I would be pleased to help out, as I ran a large database in FileMaker on the "fun" machines for 2 years. And DOS is not the Evil Empire -- it is simply "Macintosh '94". We have been talking for a long time about getting data on the plants members are keeping, types of lighting, systems of CO2 delivery, etc. If we are ever going to start doing this, use of a database manager is the only way to go.
