From Mary

I tried to send this a couple of days ago and didn't get a bounce, but
it hasn't showed up. I'll try again.

John Glacier's group had a speaker (originally from Holland) on Dutch
style aquariums. I have seen pictures of his tanks, and they are very
impressive. I asked John if he could recommend him as a speaker for the
AGA convention. Here is his reply as well as recommendations for another
speaker:

Hello Mary,

Wim van Drongelen ( wvandron@peds.bsd.uchicago.edu ) is now a professor of
neurology at the University of Chicago. Last time I talked to him, he said
he was going to join the new planted aquarium club in Chicago.

He could make a good presentation, a full hour, with slides representing
the early days of the Dutch aquarium movement and with relatively current
examples. A nice touch he could provide is his allusions to the cultural
circumstances that determined the development of the Dutch approach.
Also, his comparisons with other approaches, particularly the German would
be excellent.

In the preparation for his presentation to our club, he made a good
connection with Frans Maas, Publicist
Aquariumfotografie en Diavoordrachten

We obtained slides from Frans Maas

I'll alert Wim of your inquiry.

Another potential speaker is:

Institute for Environmental Studies

Visiting Professor of Botany
University of Hawaii

Professor Givnish (member of our club) and I are collaborating in
nurturing a 150 gallon aquarium, containing an artistic arrangement of
over 40 freshwater plant species. We installed it this past January, in
the expansive atrium of Birge Hall. Birge is the location of the
Universily = of Wisconsin's Botany Department, in Madison. Tom has
developed an = exceptional document that explains the classification and
functioning of aquatic = plants. This document will soon be organized in
some information panels, = associated with the aquarium. Indeed, an
outstanding presentation, at some point!
