I wouldn't have a problem with eliminating multi-year memberships, as suggested by Diana. But we do need to think this through, first. There will be some consequences to doing it that we should consider. If we eliminate multi-year memberships, we run the risk of having larger numbers of members letting their memberships lapse, with a resultant loss of revenue. Also, it can be annoying having to remember to renew each year. Jack will also have a much more involved job contacting our entire membership on a yearly basis (remember, too, that our membership is larger now), which will also increase costs (printing, postage, etc.). I do have another idea, though. Maybe instead of making it a "yearly" or "multi-year" membership, we can make it 4 issues, 8 issues, or even 12 issues. That way we are not bound by 4 issues in a calendar year, taking some of the pressure off of the TAG staff. In a related vein, I have had several members mention to me over the years that they would like to see some sort of notice built in to the mailing labels on TAG, so they can be reminded that renewal is due soon. This would save some of the work on Jack's part. All of the other major clubs (ACA, ALA, AKA) that I belong to do this. Then the membership chair only has to send out notices to those whose membership actually lapses, saving him time and saving the club money.
