Hi all, I wish I could have been there. Sounds like everyone had a good time! I'm surprised by the lack of attendance by the Management Committee. I felt bad because I thought I would be the only one not there! Now I really feel bad that I couldn't make it. My only comments would be on the cost - as that is the only thing I heard complaints about. That is one reason why the St. Louis group as a whole did not come this year. Gary and I would have been there regardless of cost, but both of us spent too much time on the road this year already, and had several local things coming up in November - so we had to use the "spouse points" (as Gary calls them) appropriately. I think we should separate out the banquet and meals from the cost of attendance at the convention. Many folks don't like to pay the outrageous amounts that hotels charge for food, and don't like the hotel food, either. Let's face it, whether it is good or not, hotel banquets have a reputation! : ) Why force people to attend? I can't think of another hobby convention that rolls the banquet cost into the cost of the convention. It's always an option. As to a local-sponsored and run auction on Sunday, I think that would be a great idea if the local club wants to do it. Auctions and the chance to get new plants/fish are another benefit of attending conventions. Looking forward to next year (and saving some "spouse points" for it!).
