Dear Karen,
I spoke with Mr. Amano about your advice. Considering the recent
technological progress, we think high resolution digital camera has similar
capacity to capture the image of the aquarium layout. So form this time, we
would like to accept applications with digital camera images. If applicants
wish to send the image taken with digital camera, we ask to send print and
digital data in media such as CD-ROM, ZIP.
I really appreciate if you could spread this information to your fellow
association members, and encourage them to enter our contest.
Best regards,

Dear Nozomi,
We made a big effort to encourage people to enter your contest at our annual
convention in November. We continue to discuss it regularly.
Many people here love the idea of your contest, and there are many good
aquarists who are creating lovely aquascapes. The biggest reason I hear for
people not entering your contest is the fact that the entries must be presented
in slide form. Many wonderful aquarists just don't have the expertise to take
publication quality (or even truly representative) film photos of their tanks.
They either don't have access to people who can do this for them professionally
or can't spend the money on it.
It is much easier to take a representative photo of a tank with a digital
camera than with film. It may not be as good as a high quality film photo done
by someone who knows how to do it, but it is still much better than a poor film
photo taken by a novice!
Perhaps if you were to start accepting high resolution digital images, you
would get more participation from the US. This is just an idea, but I thought
I'd pass it along to you. I know how much people enjoy seeing the results of
your contest, so I suspect more people would enter if they thought they could
fairly represent their tanks.
Another thought that I don't know if you might be interested in... Perhaps
next fall, when your contest is over, and your contest book is out, the AGA
could arrange to buy a small number of your contest books for resale at the
convention. That way other aquarists who didn't enter the contest would be able
to see the contest results directly.

International Aquatic Plants Layout Contest 2003
We have been organizing International Aquatic Plants Layout Contest 2003,
and we wish many planted aquarium hobbyists will participate for the contest
from the U.S. We really appreciate if you could ask your friends and fellow
hobbyists to join our contest.
Thank you.
