I wouldn't really call it 'negative feelings', it was more along the lines of misunderstandings. Some of which were due to the fact that we have had no experience hosting a convention, and had other expectations. However, the fact is that, as the AGA continues having local clubs host the conventions (which is great BTW), most of the clubs will not have the experience running something like this, and this is where a set of detailed guidlines on running aspects of the convention (e.g. auction) would really come in handy. Detailed information of how to run all aspects of the convention will ensure that the hosting club has a clear understanding of the amount of work involved. Vendor relationships should probably be handled by an AGA Convention Comittee of sorts. Long terms relationships are important and it would probably be best served. Having a Convention Comitee, made up of folks who've run past conventions, as an advisory board for the hosting club, and having the hosting club members be part of a mailing list to discuss and hammer out all the details would help a lot. We did do this in a limited way this year, and based on that experience, we should probably expand on that. I don't want the AGA to take this the wrong way - everything can be improved, both on the AGA side and the hosting club side. We just need to make sure that we learn and improve. I don't have time today to get into too many details, but give me a little time and I'll send a list of what I think would help the AGA, and hosting clubs, run things smoother in the long run.
