Re: [AGA-mcm] Vendors and TAG

The deadline for the deadlines is not yet due:
I don't think the 2005 TAG schedule has been released yet.
The editor in Chief sets the schedule and from there, you
and Cheryl can work out when she needs the ad copy for each
issue. This isn't a big deal since there isn't a lot of
turnover, but if you sign up a half dozen more vendors,
timing will get hairier (and your fame in the AGA will rise
markedly ;-) ).

Let's gets fiscal:
AGA's fiscal year is the calendar year. This helps to
remember the start and end dates. If there's a seasonality
to the business, I'm not sure what it is, so having a diff
fiscal year isn't especially useful. The financial
lumpiness (or subannual periodic financial variability) is
mostly due to the convention.

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today:
Getting a full year of ad payments up front doesn't do a
lot for us financially unless:

1) it's a vendor unlikely to buy (or worse buy but not pay
for) all the ads later on
or
2) It's a foreign vendor, in which case fewer but bigger
checks are cheaper to deposit than many but smaller checks.

Otoh, if giving a "deal" makes the diff between getting one
to swallow the hook vs spitting it out, a percentage of
something is worth more than all of nothing.

How green is my valley:
I can only give you a list of past vendors, which is the
same as current vendors except for a couple (APC and, uh,
have to look them up when I get home. Current vendors, of
course, can be found on the pages of a very popular aquatic
plant mag and yours should have arrived by now. If you
needs addresses, I can give you those. ;-)

As for vendors we never had but are worth aiming for, any
vendor with plant-related wares ought to be fare game, imo,
as long as they don't sell snake oil, again imo.

We've only pulled one vendor for late payment, APC. They
still owe us and are trying to make ends meet, so don't
offer any deals there; it's not good for them or us.

If you're reading this while on the throne, well, heck, I
had an uncle used to do his reading on the throne.
