[AGA-mcm] AGA 2005

No bids. No interested clubs. That means no convention.
Clarification: The only likely bid we had was CAPE, and that was shaky to
begin with (ultimately CAPE declined earlier this month).
Based on this expectation of a weak or non-existant local club, I sent out
some feelers on this list about "us" running the next convention, i.e., a
minimal ground crew that could just handle things that absolutely needed
to be handled locally, with all the other committee heads made up of
existing AGA folks, i.e., "us", who basically do that sort of job anyway.
(Similarly, the risk/profit split would be adjusted 75/25 or 100/0,
depending on the arrangement).
For instance, I offered to extend my own A/V work by doing the rentals
remotely; I suggested maybe Cheryl could integrate the registration with
the membership, as she essentially was doing thing as backup ANYWAY. etc.
This idea was NOT well-responded by others here. I got a generally bad
vibe from everyone who did reply.
I have e-mailed my friend in Portland to gauge interest there (as their
club is kind of in a slow downward spiral, I suspect not, unless there are
enough people quitting the club that want club-ish stuff to do). I do
suspect there is some interest in the Bay area, if someone could poke them
a little. But I'm guessing everyone here is still very burned-out from
this year's convention, and not motivated to organize next year's at this
time.
