Make that _19 people so far_ and we are on the hunt for hotel and convention locations and pricing(4 of us). We are trying to find a place near the BART stations so folks can go anywhere in the Bay without a car, Monterey is nice but that might end up a field trip(Mark is now a curator there so we can get small groups in there anytime with a little notice).
I think that is a wise choice. Monterey seems like it'd be cool at first glance, but in reality you'll drive out all the local bay area folks during the auction and lectures who don't want to drive to Monterey and aren't interested in the field trip aspect.
There are many LFS's around here(namely Marin, even if you don't like aquatics, we got Muir woods and the coast line) and more weed field trips. Most of the SFBAAPS member ship is right here also.
Just my gut feeling, I beleive more people would be interested in collecting than zoo/aquarium stuff. There is also no requirement that there be an elaborate field trip as part of the convention!
We have a person to do the tourist non fish/plant tour of SF to take care of any spouse's, kids etc that want to sight see. It'll be a humdinger.
What's your timetable Tom? We're getting kinda close (really we've already gone over by several months) this year's deadline, and unless things are sketched out in the next month, it might be better to shoot for 2006 than 2005 if you want to have any promotion. (If the budget allows for a small convention, then you might be OK though. Definitely would not have worked for DC.)
