[AGA-mcm] PAM thing

OK, heads up!

Everyone has been debating on the merits of negotiating with Dave Gomberg 
over PAM rights, and many recommending we don't do it.

What hasn't been said clearly, though, is that Karen has ALREADY 
EFFECTIVELY COMPLETED this negotiation, and the board pretty much gave the 
thumbs-up already last week.  Each of us individually replied "sounds 
inexpensive, sounds good."

Karen went through quite some effort to haggle Dave down from one of his 
"dave-deals" to the lifetime-of-TAG, in exchange for releasing all 
remaining rights to PAM.  She went into this with the assumption that the 
board was OK with her striking a reasonable deal with him.

I had not realized this, but in talking with Karen, I understand a little 
better.  She assumed the AGA *wanted* the rights.  She didn't go into it 
just to find out what Dave wanted, she did a lot of extra work, and at 
this point if we reverse the decision and decide not to go through with 
the deal, it'll be similar to walking out in the final stages of a 
contract.

Karen has further explained that if we decide to now back out of the deal, 
someone else will need to take over the discussion with Gomberg, as she 
will not deliver that news.  I beleive, however, she has offered to see 
this negotiation to completion if the board continues to support it.

We don't need to DO anything with these rights.  And I suspect we should 
NOT do anything with them for a bit, just to let this cool off a bit.

It's a pretty inexpensive decision.  We just paid $50 to the ACA. This 
deal, IMO, is now worth about that much as Dave will no doubt pull his AGA 
membership if we back out... so we wouldn't be getting his $20 per year 
anyway.

Regardless of my personal feelings in the matter about PAM, I would 
consider it a pretty cruddy thing to do to Karen if we suddenly reversed 
decision.  So I am recommending that the board allow Karen to complete the 
negotiation with Dave Gomberg for full PAM rights.

I'm going to pull my "second" on David's proposal to do nothing, and 
instead propose that we let Karen complete the negotiations.
