Well Spring is here and we haveln't even seen a draft of a proposal. I think SFBAAPS feels like they're going to do the convention and the longer this preproposal "planning" goes on, the more they are going to feel like they've been working in good faith and if the AGA doesn't let them do the convention, well, then that will be viewed as an act of bad faith. The longer this goes on, the harder it will be to turn them down (for 2005 or 2006) if it comes to that. And it could come to that, we haven't seen any numbers that suggest this thing can work. They have a lot of motion going on that would best have been done last year if 2005 was the intended convention year. There are a number of unanswered questions (e.g., see Larry's recent list) that suggests they are not anywhere near putting a proposal together. I'm inclined to tell them we should all be aiming at 2006. Plenty of time then to work things out. I also think the sooner we focus on 2006 and drop 2005 out of the picture, the better. If we wait until we actually have a proposal and then take time to consider it, then decide if 2005 is doable, I think it's going to be too far down the road to to try to turn back. I think it's conceivable to do a decent convention in 2005, if most of the ducks are in order. But I think we have the opposite situation here; key ducks are in diff ponds -- we're not even sure who the ducks are. Add that to the points that David makes and 2005 doesn't look like a good idea. In fact, I think it looks like a high risk for a badly organized, redundant convention with high prices and low attendance. I don't think a good convention can be rushed and a convention in 2005 is not possible without its being rushed. sh _______________________________________________ AGA-mcm mailing list AGA-mcm@thekrib.com http://lists.thekrib.com/mailman/listinfo/aga-mcm
