Re: [AGA-mcm] Sidetrack

It _definitely_ can work, and be great fun. Scott and I just returned from the NEC convention, where we hold the "AGA side-show"<g> every year. We have a lovely low-key get-together on Friday afternoon of the convention, and the NEC also has a plant speaker on Sat. This year we easily had 50 people on Friday, and my guess is close to 100 people during Christel's talk on Sat.

Now, granted, Christel was a big draw. But we regularly have 30+ people at this little meeting, and that is with next to no advertising, and very little work on anyone's part. NEC has offered for years to let us "piggy back" on NEC for free, and I suspect other clubs would enjoy hosting a lower-key event on the same basis. For taht matter, I'm sure we could do something more elaborate at NEC if we asked, and the costs would be minimal.

Maybe, if we went to an every-other-year "big" convention, this is would be a fun way to allow folks to get together in the "off" years.

Ya know Karen, that might just be a great idea. Who is
to say we can't have a plant related AGA event without
calling it an "AGA" and therefore having to live up to
our own expectations.....

No, but my impression is that PVAS is not running a
very big convention of
their own these days. (that from chit-chat with

thing, but it is pretty
low-key, with local speakers and attendees.
(although at this point,
low-key is sounding mighty good to me!)
