Re: [AGA-mcm] Re: Aquatic Plant Central
No, not exclusive rights, just first North American rights, which is
standard if there is no contract stating otherwise. I think most of these
folks just don't know publishing protocol. I also don't think that it will
cut into what we get. I see this much more as people not understanding the
impact of what they are doing. I think they are proud of what they've
written, and the fact that it has been accepted by TAG, and want to share it
with others. They are just jumping the gun. We can't fully control it, of
course, but I think if we explain it better up front, there will be less of
it. In fact, some of our most "serious" authors won't allow their work to
be published on the web at all.
And again, as annoying as it is, the MAJORITY of our members don't visit
APC, so wouldn't see it there anyway. It's just that there are those vocal
few, and the fact that I'd like APC members to see the value of being
members of both.
We could ask Art if he'd be willing to check that an article hasn't been
submitted and pending for TAG before publishing it on-line. AFTER it's
published in TAG, I have no problem with people posting their work on the
web. It makes it available to a wider audience, and we don't have to worry
about permissions.
