Re: [AGA-mcm] Random thoughts on Ad revs and the lack thereof

Did you say "Well, poot" or "Well, poole"?

Anyway, counting Milwaukee and Kent, in terms of revenue,
that's about 125-135 membership-equivalents that we've lost
this year. I really doubt we will make that up in
memberships.

Perhaps more importantly, Kent is one of the larger vendors
that has a dedicated aquatic plant (AP) line of products --
and an entire new/revamped AP line that is only a couple of
years old. I would have thought they'd hang onto us for
sure. I think this does not bode well ad revs in general.
I'd like to actually know the reason Kent is dropping TAG.
"Refocusing" is a tautological "explanation." Unlikely that
they would actually tell us, though.

Advertisers still on board are Tropica (probably
steadfast), Seachem (probably steadfast), ZooMed (only a
limted AP line), Caribsea (only a limited AP line).

Let's be aggressive about hanging onto the advertisers.

If you haven't already, Phil, can you call Kent and ask
what we could do to get them back? Let's see if they are
willing to dicker. You don't have to promise anything; you
can always say, "I have to take that back to the Board for
approval." Or, if you think you have the best deal you can
get, afaic, go ahead and make a deal.

If ZooMed or CaribSea starts to balk, how about we offer
them double-page ads for the same price for 4 issues only?
We probably wouldn't be increasing total ad-space since
we've picked up two pages with the loss of Kent and
Milwaukee.

In my heart, I'd love to give the Kent space to SeaChem at
no additional charge -- but that's not business, that's
personal.
