Re: [AGA-mcm] Merry Christmas to me

Hiring a professional tax accountant is definitely the wisest course, especially since you can never get the same answer twice from the IRS (from much personal experience)! The relatively small cost of hiring a pro and doing it right the first time is much less than the cost of trying to fix it later.

The rule of thumb I've always followed: know your limitations. If you can't do do it yourself - then hire a competent professional.

...my two cents

I just received in the mail, courtesy of the AGA's 1st
Clerk of record, an IRS mailing containing Form 941 and
related documents (looks like it might be a big family).

Form 941 is the required form for reporting monthly (or
quarterly, the instructions are confusing on this point)
employment taxes. Since we have none, we only pay
independent contractors, do we have to file stating "zero"
and just ignore the form? Beats the heck out of me.

Oh, poop, I'm back in the IRS interpretation business --
just when I thought I was out, they pullllll me back in. .
. [trust me, my Pacino is much better in person -- so
real that you'd be tempted to ask, "Hey, Al, what was with
all that grunting in 'Scent of a Women'?]

I think we are not required to file, but I'm still looking
into it.

I suggest again to the Board and Committee that the AGA
enlist the professional services of a tax accountant.
Relying upon me, or any novice, for these purposes is not
the safest way to go. If indeed the applicable tax filing
requirements are simple, then I expect that the tax
accountant's fees would be modest.
