Re: [AGA-mcm] We're Rolling!

But that's *exactly* what one needs, of course -- a club that is stable enough that you COULD expect a chair to hold a volunteer team together for a year. That's precisely how conventions like the ACA and NEC run every year. The ACA already knows where 2006 will be -- they will announce it at the convention -- and is quite far on the 2007 research.

There aren't any long-established clubs (SFBAAPS is the oldest!), and perhaps it's a plant people "attitude" of not wanting structure, but for a looser club, it really will require a lot of help from "nationals" like us to keep things running over the course of 1 year+.

Absolutely. And I think it's something we can't avoid if we

I do still have angst about early commitments -- how does a
chairperson hold a volunteer team together for over a year?
I can see a tight group like DFWAPC doing it but a lot of
clubs are looser, no? Anyway, time will tell.

Which, for future considerations, is another reason for
us to try to get
firm commitments for conventions earlier. If we know we
are not having a
dedicated AGA convention in a specific year, we can
always tag onto another
convention.

It's dead easy with NEC, because they already give us our
own meeting space
and time, and bring in a top plant speaker. So we don't
pay for a thing.
Because of the DFW group, we're getting something going
at ACA. But if
these events were advertised earlier as "official" AGA
events, rather than
just a "pick up game", they would be an opportunity for
all members to
participate, rather than just those in the know. We
don't want to steal
fire (or participation) from a dedicated AGA event, but
in off years, there
are other good alternatives.

If we can get someone to give an aquatic plant
presentation, we can call it AGA2K5, the little
convention
that could!

Here is a list of people who have volunteered or

Cheryl Rogers
Ann Viverette
Ricky Cain
Nikolay Kralchev (sp?)
Harold Laroux (tentative)
David Lim
May Lorfing (tentative)

and whatever AGA'ers aren't busy at the moment.

So this looks pretty good. Several AGA members have
indicated that they will
send plants, but indications are that DFWAPC be
bringing more plants than
AGA. Anyway, it's all good.

Nikolay is doing a great job of keeping interest up
on
the DFW lists and I
will try to hold my end up on the AGA side.
