A forum has the personality and content of whoever posts on it. They are all pretty much the same, imo. Some busier than others; some will have a few expert stars for a while but that seems transient. Otoh, there is nothing else like TAG, not in English anyway. The splant tuff in AFM or TFH? Not even close, imo. The big stumbling block to doing an AGA forum is not that there are already plenty of plant forums out there or that (some) moderators would probably have to come from existing forums, but that we have never had anyone that was willing to make the long term commitment to admininstering it. A one-year commitment isn't enough, forums take longer than that to grow. They take about two years just to become well established -- trafficked enough to compensate for the turnover in users. I think that hey take about 5 years to complete their life cycle except in rare cases. In terms of life span, it's a lot like opening a restaurant. Many are started, most struggle for a year or two, most are washed up within 5 years. I don't think AGA is afraid to risk having a forum that's washed up in five years, but we don't want to risk something going for just a year then falling apart because we don't have the forum staff resources to keep it going. Anyway, we've never had anyone willing to commit for more than a year. I don't think there is anything else stopping the AGA from having forums. sh --- Larry Lampert <l_lampert@yahoo.com> wrote: > . . isn't a forum just as relevant as TAG especially > when > trying to reach out to the new Internet generation? > > I understand the limitations of the people and time we > have, but I also think that we could find the person > or persons within the AGA who could take on the > project and do it right.
