Re: [AGA-mcm] Juggling

What ever we do, we should NOT use Seachem (or any other advertiser) as a short term solution to this issue. We need to decide (fast) whether we want corporate sponsorship for the project or not. We have the money in the bank, so that's not the issue... it's how we choose to spend our money.

I'd be of a mind to do it ourselves as a promotion piece. Frankly, I'd much rather see our money go to this sort of thing than banner ads, but I know others feel that is a worthwhile pursuit.

As far as handing them out in quantity to folks hoping they will get back into the hands of local clubs... I'd rather send them directly TO the clubs for their libraries if we decide to do that. Even if people are well-intentioned, when they get home, tired, from a big convention, it is likely to be stuffed in a corner and forgotten in the rush to get fish into tanks, mollify spouses and offspring, etc.<g>

What about this thought? Print them with a price on the cover that actually covers our costs. We are still free to give them away as we choose, but we show the monetary value of the thing right up front. We could also sell it via the web site for a nominal fee if we decided to later on. Giving SOME away doesn't mean we need to give them all away. (and I'm not talking about making money on them... just recovering some of the cost)

Of course, we take that particular risk with TAG every issue already. And this brochure, while home-grown, is still very $2000 to print.

That's my only concern with this run. If getting help from someone in order to offset the last minute printing costs will allow us to have the booklet ready for ACA then I'm all for it. I agree with Larry and would like this project to be AGA/DFWAPC only over the long haul. How would y'all feel about getting help for a short run and then printing the bulk order at more affordable "more notice" prices without the logo for broad range distribution?

I see this ACA conference as a huge publicity opportunity for us up and above our table and other plant events. If we can get these folks information that will help break down boundaries or meet the activiation energy needed to get them to keep plants we've got a large potential pool of new members. I got three new folks from a discus conference a few years ago and that was out of a group of 20 or so people. How many more could we get with such high quality printed info that they will potentially read multiple times and "just try it on that empty 10g in the corner"?

Would it be possible to get a number of them into the hands of folks who could take them back and pass them out at their local club meetings? Having not been to a conference this large I don't know how easy it would be to find folks who are part of a large club. That way we could distribute the majority to non-plant folks who might not wonder about why Seachem is on there somewhere.

Best,
Phil
