want to stop trying to fill it. I.e., if some commmerical

that's when we'd drop out and let pure unbridled capitalism

Precisely. I think this needs to be our way of thinking about the Book
Sales. Let Gomberg and Hudson and the other e-tailers fight with Amazon.
We should not sell the new edition of the Tropica book.
We should find the things they don't have the resources to produce.
No, I don't have any notion that we would make money on
this -- although we might recover some -- maybe a lot -- of
the expenses. But if we keep it simple and on leash it
could be a desireable, appropriate, even *noble* use of AGA
money.
This is also EXACTLY why I think we should do these things. I want us
eventually to break even on TAG from memberships and ads, and be able to
spend convention income on interesting and useful projects like the
beginner's guide or this. Some "other" things we can clearly do for the
hobby.
If we're going to suppose about the translation program,
then next we should suppose some of these things:
What's B&W laserprint/photocopy? $0.30/per page?
Should be much less than that -- more like 0.05 per page, 0.08
double-sided, over at Costco.
How many pages is the CK book and, minus the pics, and
How many text pages (8.5x11) does that translate into?
Looks like about 160 TAG-like pages. I would assume 100 tag-sized printed
pages, or 25 double-sided 8.5x11" sheets. At 10
cents per page, that might cost us about $2.50 per booklet, though
I don't think we can do saddle-stitching on that size. Perhaps 11x17
folded then as a 50-page booklet. At any rate, you can see we could
easily do this on the cheap, even printing on-demand.
Who will administer?
Excellent question, but theoretical at this point.
Who speaks and writes Deutche? Even better, who speaks and
writes Deutche, loves plants, and likes working for AGA
wages? I can do a few words my grandmothers taught me but I
doubt they occur in CK's work.
The only person I know of who could fit this bill so far is/was Michael
Eckardt. Dunno if he's up for something that huge. Perhaps we could
query the membership. Offer a small stipend. Maybe test them out on a TAG
article from Christel.
Again, just some more ideas.
