Dear Erik,

Thanks for clarification. I agree that its not in AGA's interest to sell
books that are readily available elsewhere.

Neil Frank seems to know a lot more than I do about new plant books.

Hi Diana,

Nope, we're not selling this one. My thoughts (and I think the rest of
the board & advisory committee folks) are that the AGA shouldn't bother
selling books that everyone else is able to sell as well.

We were having a discussion of what it would take to make some of the
German-only books available, such as Kasselmann's Echinodorus work. As
in, translate to English, include inexpensively-produced translation
bundled with the actual German book. But it's just thoughts, not an
actual plan (namely because we don't know anyone willing to translate a
160-page book into English for little or no money).

If you have any ideas of new rare items for the AGA to sell, please let me
know!!!

Dear Dorothy,

I may be out of the loop on this one. I don't have Kasselmann's book
nor has AGA contacted me about it. Below is FYI message I received
yesterday from AquaBotanic & Phil Edwards.

Perhaps you can order it from him. If AGA wants me to sell Kasselmann's
book, then I would not mind doing so. However, there's no way I can sell a
book if I don't have it...in hand!

"This plant book is truly for everyone. For the long time, serious
hobbyist who wants every plant book in their library, or for the beginner
who is on the learning track, this book is a must have. Ms. Christel
Kasselmann is one of the most highly respected and recognizable authorities
on this hobby. Kasselmann and Amano have made more of a contribution to this
hobby than anyone. Here is the official bio of this book: Planted Aquariums:
Creation and Maintenance starts with a discussion of light, soil, and water
requirements for keeping plants in aquariums. The next chapter gives the
reader guidelines for choosing the right plants for their tanks. The major
portion teaches how to plan for, purchase, and install plants in the
aquarium. There is a detailed section that is useful for someone who just
wants to put a few hardy plants into a small tank as well as for the serious
hobbyist aiming to create a show tank. Sections on plant care, water
quality, problem solving, and fish!
in planted aquariums round out the picture. A special section on Dutch
and Japanese planted tanks provides a wider perspective. "Hands on"
information is available for hobbyists who want their tanks to shine.
Although the book is comprehensive, the beginner can learn how to create and
maintain a simple tank or a more complex one. Author : Christel Kasselmann

copy of the book and it's looking good so far. I'd say it's geared more
toward the beginner to intermediate hobbyist but so far is the most complete
planted tank guide I've read so far. Two features I !
think are outstanding are the comprehensive index of common pl!
 ants and
the layout instructions for Dutch aquascape examples. This feature is
most appealing due to the lack of easily accessable information on Dutch
aquascaping in English. The index isn't as in-depth as "Aquarium Plants",
but it provides all the practical information about most of the commonly
used species." Phil Edwards Retail price is 38.99. Order now to get the
31.99 price. www.aquabotanic.com "
