We're not gatewaying the moderator discussion. We're only gatewaying THIS
list to a special "advisory committee" forum. So you won't see any of the
discussion amongst the moderators without going to the forum.
If I can ask for the short story, what's wrong with the software Erik has
chosen. I have no problem spending the money for a program IF it offers
a good benefit, AND Erik is comfortable with it. However, my gut
reaction is to follow Erik's lead on this. I trust him to stick with it,
and to keep us up and operating in a way I trust almost no one else.
The short story is that it doesn't scale. When it gets to the level of
APC, it will need to be replaced with something written better, such as
vBulletin. I beleive we have said during the discussion leading up to the
proposal that we were trying this out to see if it would fly, and could
later upgrade and pay money if it gets popular. I have confirmed with
Phil that APC made the change fairly smoothly from phpBB to vBulletin when
this happened.
However, Scott has made the jump to saying it should be replaced NOW,
before we start, and has steered the conversation back to this multiple
times (including contradicting Phil, who this morning suggested we work on
the other topics to get the forum open). I brought the conversation back
to the list here because I do not like bickering amongst our own guys in
front of our new volunteers (except Ray who can read this as an admin --
Hi Ray!). I thought we were all on the same page, but we apparently are
not.
