Re: [AGA-mcm] Forum "purchasing"
Hey guys,
I've only just now read some of the emails regarding the possibilities of
using a different software for the forums but feel the need to address some
of the issues before I go any further.
Am I the 'leader' of the forum project? I started the whole deal, so I
guess I am, and have been trying to act in an oversight capacity.
Unfortunately 99% of the recent activity took place while I was out of town
with limited internet access. Now I'm back in black and will be doing more.
I am willing, able, and intend to be as much of an organizing and
directing force to the moderators as I can be in this endeavor.
Is public discussion good? Yes, to a point. We have this tendancy to
discuss things into the ground here and that's not what we need right now.
From all of the discussion we had prior to getting the mod staff involved I
was under the impression that we, the AC and BOD had decided that it was in
our best interest to go ahead using the free PHPBB software and that it was
one of the deciding factors in actually getting the forum project going.
What we don't need right now is so much discussion and politicking and
change that the project never gets going. If I'm to be the manager of the
program then it's my responsibility to insure that it actually gets going
instead of getting caught in the 'talk cycle'. Do I speak for the BOD? No,
I'm just an advisor, but I can reiterate what the BOD has said and decided
in the past to the other folks. Y'all did decide that PHPBB was the
software of choice and that's all I said, and is all I will say about that
off-list.
Personally, I would prefer to use VBulletin, but we passed the motion for
the forums based on PHPBB and that's why I said what I said. If y'all on
the BOD are willing to motion and pass the funding for using VBulletin quick
enough that our admin staff has the time to install and streamline the new
software before the announcement deadline then I'm all for it. If not,
let's take a little time and use the forum skeleton that's up right now and
work behind the scenes to get the VBulletin software package up and running
afterwards.
PE
