Re: [AGA-mcm] Analysis of gregwatson.com list

I told Greg that I would share my analysis with him. I there anything in my first e-mail that I should edit before sending?

On 1/17/2006, Greg Watson sent me a list of his customers from 2004 and 2005. In comparing his list to our database, I have the following to report:

There were 2077 entries on the list, but I found 440 duplicate names, which makes 1637 unique customers in the last two years.

85 are current, active members of the AGA.

25 are former AGA members, who expired with the last issue of TAG, and who could reasonably be expected to renew.

An additional 47 are former AGA members who expired earlier last year or before.

1479 are not now, and never have been, AGA members.

Wow. That's 90%.

Couple of other thoughts:

--There wasn't a whole lot of overlap either way. Mostly our members don't seem to order from him, either.

--His list is *much* more US and Canada-based than ours. We have a much greater percentage of foreign members. Considering shipping, that make sense.

--Most of his customers only order every one or two years, so his customer cycle is similar to our membership cycle.

--He said he had 63 orders so far in Jan 2006 (not on the list). If we extrapolate, he might ship 1,500 orders this year, so his business is picking up, because he says he shipped 1,130 orders last year.

--AGA is ALL OVER his web site, and his email confirmation to his customers contains our logo and link. All, or nearly all, of his customers have seen the AGA logo and links. Yet they do not join.

He has offered to include AGA brochures and/or PAMs-TAGs in each of his orders. We could try it for six months and see.
