[AGA-mcm] contest chai job description

Hey Y'all,

(That's Texan for "Hi.")

I was talking to my Mom over the Holiday, seeing as how we had nothing
better to do while snowed in at Colorado Springs, and she had some
suggestions. One was that we create needed volunteer/worker *job
descriptions,* including the type of person best suited, software
capabilities preferred, and number of hours that we estimate it would take.

She worked in the job-getting industry for a long time, and says that we
should actually get more responses because people are confident that
they can do the job rather than blowing it off because they are
imagining something very different than what we truly need.

I'll start,

"The Aquatic Gardeners Association International Aquascaping Contest
needs a leader! In order to continue the oldest international contest in
the plant-keeping world, the AGA needs a Contest Committee Chair to lead
the 2007 Aquascaping Contest.

Duties include implementing online and/or print advertising, recruiting
judges, requesting sponsorship for prizes, handling participant and
member problems and feedback, and coordinating prize-giving. Erik Olson
will run the Contest web site and provide technical support, so computer
skills are not required beyond timely communication via e-mail and forum.

The Contest Committee Chair should have working knowledge of the
Contest, although previous participation is not required. This person
should be detail-oriented and able to recruit and supervise volunteers
for tasks such as creating graphics and posting in forums. He or she
must be routinely available via e-mail and forum, and reports to the AGA
Management Committee.

The work requires approximately 15 minutes each day, and a few more
hours per week in the summer, to have time to coordinate advance
advertising and acquire donations. The Contest opens June 1, 2007 and
closes September 16, 2007.

Please contact Erik Olson at erik@thekrib.com for more information."

Most of you know that I advocate paying folks for doing certain big jobs
on a freelance basis, and I am doing so in this case as well. I know
that the contest doesn't earn the AGA much money, but I am satisfied for
most of the revenues to be paid to the Contest Chair. If the Board
decides to do this, we should also indicate that it is a paid position.

Lemme know whatcha think,

Cheryl
