Sorry for the delay in this reply. I have pulled my brain out of the
most recent TAG (mostly) and can devote some time to clearing my Inbox. Then any membership stuff gets linked back to the main site.My first reaction is Um... Why? If you want to maintain it on another physical site because it's easier for you, sure, go ahead. No, it's just the coolness factor. I also bought the domain so that no one else could have it. Are you also volunteering to host the content on this other site? I could, if you want. But I'd prefer to keep it all on one server. Well, it's just not a question of you "meddling". More often than not you're catching my mistakes anyway. No, it's just ... cool. And why shouldn't we do it? Huh? Huh? Whynot? It would definitely be free of my meddling in that case! :) I do see a very real need to re-organize some of the physical layout of the content on the site, Absolutely. I have yearned for a re-organization. Now if only I had the time. BTW, Ben Belton and I did much the same thing with the DFWAPC web site a couple of years ago.I would LIKE to see it moved around so that the root directory has only the main pages, and then there are subdirectories for (names just examples): Yes! With ... buttons and ... swooshes ... and cross-links. And folks could contribute ... stuff.Maybe this is the same thing as you're proposing, except in your view, TAGIndex/ Articles/ and the tag.html page moves to a new domain as well. I will say, though, that it's occasionally difficult having the contest and forum on different virtual sites. For instance, when I wanted to have a rotating banner ad for the convention and contest in 2005, I was only able to do it on the "main" site, because that particular server-side script only ran from that one location. The forum, I beleive, ended up with a single static banner. How come you couldn't use a ... I forget the name ... non-relational link? It might also be a good time to give the main site a commensurate makeover, like two color/design themes that complement each other. This suggestion is long overdue. As basic as I like to be, I have been thinking of little _javascript_ bits to make the TAG archive DVD/article index look better, like having the author index expand (or go to a new page) when you click on the author. That sounds awesome. I saw a site like that, www.centurymartialarts.com. Trouble is, it doesn't work as well in Firefox and ticks me off. I bet you could do it better. Ahem. I would like to suggest moreover, that we PAY someone to do a web site makeover. Graphics, css, swooshes, and so forth. Approach 3 or 4 people with cool web sites and see who wants to be paid to do this .... Oh, well, of course. It rolls so trippingly off your tongue. Like it wouldn't take me FREAKING DAYS to figure out the BLEEPING COLORS. Sheesh, I can do the css, it's the DESIGN that drives me nuts. And of course, two different design themes is as simple as two different .css files.
