I posted this on the AGA Forum a couple days back "We've had on the AGA forum, something I dubbed the "geezer gateway", which allows a certain amount of bidirectional posting between the old AGA Email list, and the forum. It doesn't work super great. In fact, the bidirectionality of it is pretty weak. Nobody uses the e-mail for posting anymore anyway. Worse, the author of the gateway program hasn't updated it for the current version of phpBB. I personally like the e-mail gateway as a notification tool -- it tells us moderators when someone's posted a spam right away. But I'm curious if others use the service. What I'm thinking of doing as we head into the new year and I'm getting started on a long-overdue software and hardware upgrade, is to take out the geezer gateway (and corresponding aga-member + aga-forums e-mail lists), and instead install two features (MODs) on the board: 1) the so-called "e-mail digest" mod, which can be used to send custom e-mails once a day or week, including the text of the messages. 2) the so-called "smartfeed" mod, which will allow you to subscribe to posts via RSS feeds. I'm doing a survey to gauge the interest and see if this is sufficient for those using the gateway currently. You'll have to log into the forum to take part in the poll. Smile Or you can e-mail me directly (erik@thekrib.com) with any feedback." ---- I checked the membership info on aga-forums@thekrib.com, and there are 51 people subscribed to the digests or immediate e-mail. Interestingly, on first glance, the only person from here I found using this feature other than myself is Scott (which is probably how he manages to reply to posts so quickly).
