Hi Ben,
I started building the OS image on a new machine today -- the 2.0.22 forum
transferred over without a hitch (which pleasantly surprised me), and I
was able to mostly convert it to 3.0.6 on the new machine (as a test).
This new version of phpbb seems to have a lot of good stuff built-in:
attachments, Atom Feeds, and better e-mail subscription. The thing that's
really annoying, though, is that it won't bloody e-mail the actual text of
the posts (compared to a feed reader, which will actually show you what's
said)... which is why I did the geezer gateway to begin with.
If the Atom Feed thing works correctly, I won't be using the e-mail
subscription at all. I tend to have all my usual websites aggregated
under a feed reader these days, and that *does* show all the text of the
posts.
Lots of stuff didn't transfer over automatically, including the avatars &
color scheme, so I will have some more work to do... but I think this has
given me hope we can do the switch-out within the next couple weeks. It
is also my hope that we can then get all the so-called moderators on the
forum to subscribe in one of these two ways, so that folks other than
Scott and Cheryl answer questions there.
