Those mean "NULL" -- i.e., there's no information in the record. 
Hopefully not too many of those.  You'll need to uncheck the box if you 
want to put information in the record.

Now someone please post something on the forum so I can see if that's 
working.  Did everyone log in and sign up for e-mail digests?

Go to the User Control Panel, and under the Overview Tab, and "Basics", 
select daily digest.

You can also subscribe to all the forums you might monitor, in order to 
catch spam quickly...
