Did you try MelaFix - http://www.pondrx.com/shop/details.php?productId=39&catId=5 Designed mostly for ponds but I think they have developed it as well for other tropical fish. I think the new ones does not harm your Filter Bacteria but donno as for the plants. What about major water changes ???
