Re: [AGA-Member] List Welcome Welcome?

The long answer:

The service/server bit was a total coincidence. I got Qwest (my ISP) to upgrade the speed on the DSL line because a friend at work suggested that I could get much faster service than my 1998-era installation, and CHEAPER. SO I signed right up. But Qwest told me they had to do it in two separate orders, which were apparently, "disconnect the old service" and "connect the new service". Guess which order got lost... I spent a great deal of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday on the phone with those folks, and the bitchen new triple-the-previous-speed service finally activated Wednesday night.

A few days earlier, we had a power glitch that fried the lone serial port on the server that was controlling our aquarium lights, and rather than spend $60 for a replacement card, I figured it'd be better to spend $400 or $500, upgrade the server to something cool (like an AMD64 3200!) and give the old parts to my sister. I had no plans to actually do this for several weeks, because I hadn't yet figured out how I could minimize the downtime. But then this ISP snafu happened and it was like I was handed the answer on a silver platter. Suffice it to say, I was also working most of Monday through Wednesday on installing the new software, recompiling the contest websites, fixing outdated database files, etc.

The only thing I'd add is that a few people have been bugging me for a year or more to dump the old clunky majordomo interface to the mailing lists. But I just didn't have time to do it (and realistically, I didn't this week either!).

Anyway, enjoy the new zippier server, and if there are any problems, PLEASE let me know. I don't do this kind of overhaul very often.

I think that's all there is too it.

Or maybe, AGA felt so friendly, they just wanted to welcome
everyone again :-)

I received an e-mail today with the subject "Welcome to the "AGA-Member" mailing list" and the standard text that comes when you join a mailing list. Thing is, I have been subscribing for some time. Any idea why I just got re-welcomed?
