There is a good discussion here, having no personal experience I can't tell
you what the effect on shrimp would be, but from reading the info in the
above link, obviously I would choose not to use it in a shrimp tank.
Some of the more accomplished water gardeners around here swear by hydrogen
peroxide as a string algae treatment, I have one pond I'm going to try it in
this weekend being at my wits end, but it only has plants and minimal fish.
