I understand. However, when I try to register it asks for my E-mail
address and then rejects that address as not the one I originally
registered. I don't use another E-mail address so I can't imagine what
the problem might be. Any suggestion?

Don, though they are linked, the forum and the mailing list are
maintained 
separately.  You have to register separately for each.
