I have a couple of extra copies still. Debating on scanning it in for all
to view, or sending them around. They printed the pictures slightly
larger than TAG did, but also had the advantage of choosing mostly good
photographs rather than low-resolution ones.

My guess is that if you have trouble seeing the small pictures in TAG,
you're probably going to have the same trouble picking out how sharp the
pictures are in PAM. The pictures were not enlarged to the point at which
they were pixellated, just blurry, out-of-focus. Mary relied so heavily
on the printer's "DPI" requirements that it compromised the look. I think
they actually printed some of the higher resolution photos (that could
have been full-page even) small to match the small, low-resolution ohotos.

Talking to the printer for the ACA, I can see how this would happen.
They get FANATICAL about the magical "300 dpi" rule; in our conversation
he never mentioned any of the tricks when one is presented with a crappy
digital camera picture that just HAS to be printed. But there are always
ways around it. And yes, sometimes a large out-of-focus picture is better
than a small, sharp one. Incidentally, I have tutored Mary on the whole
issue of pixel size, printing size, and dpi THREE TIMES over the past year
and a half, and she still does not get it, because every 6 months I get
another e-mail that says something like "can I increase the dpi's of my
image by blowing it up?" Clearly by her last message to you (Neil), she
still hasn't got it.
