Re: Round 3 with Dave

Well, financial stuff isn't my strong suit, and this made my head swim.
I'll leave it to you and David (Lass) to make sure the numbers for:

>> My opinion is that providing free AGA memberships to the
existing PAM subscriptions and paying essentially the entire membership
fee to PAM for existing AGA memberships is a gracious gesture, but
reasonable for us to do, given our current treasury. <<

makes sense. I also didn't really get how it would work with the
diffferences between "AGA members" and "PAM subscribers" and how in the
world that could be administrated or who would keep track of it. Maybe it's
just too late at night. Otherwise I'm being dense.

As far as #3 is concerned, IMO we CAN'T spend enough of our treasury in one
swoop that we can't pick up the pieces if something disastrous happens, and
this sounds like it would end up being a LOT of money all at once to me. I
think that the offer of selling the back issues through the book store is a
very good one. I think that if we can talk him into being smart, he could
get rid of a lot of his back inventory and get that money back into his
hands pretty quickly if he offered a "deal" of several magazines for a
reasonable price. I think a lot of people would like to complete their
collections once they see the quality of the magazine.

As far as the number of pages is concerned, I think Dave's been very good
about giving an "editorial" spin to stuff like talking up Chattanooga, the
NEC convention, etc. The danger I see is if he insists on only 2 pages, and
then decides that that editorial content of his has used them up. Right now
in TAG, we are currently using about 1/2 page for membership info, and 1/2
page for back issues. The book store takes a whole page as it stands now,
as does the information about the organization inside the front cover.
That's 3 pages without ANY editorial space.

I suppose we could alternate book store info and back issue info... people
might read it more if it weren't all in every issue. I still can't see how
we can fit it all in 2 pages though, even if we're not including space for
an event like the convention or the aquascaping contest. Here's a thought
about handling the membership info - what about tipped in postcards? They
would be cheap to print, and could just be inserted separately. We could
actually do the same with entry forms for contests or brochures for the
convention. Sorry, I'm just trying to figure out how things are all going
to work. anyone have other thoughts?
