PAM plan looking bad

Hi folks,

Just a quick update. Dave has come to the conclusion that PAM's business
plan is inherently flawed and that if he doesn't jack up the prices and
circulation soon, there is no long-term viability for PAM.
Unfortunately, he has decided to do this particular analysis as part of
the PAM-AGA negotiation, and his current proposals all pretty much center
on a $25 per year payment to PAM (aka $30 per year membership to AGA).

I have stuck very strongly to the notion that I beleive AGA members will
not pay much more than about $20 per year (personally, I think PAM
subscribers won't pay much more than that either, so he's going to see a
sharp dropoff in his 450 members, if he hasn't already with his weird
3-year membership requirements). I have made it clear that we will have
no deal if we can't keep the membership costs low, and he's made it clear
that he doesn't want to cut author salaries or printing costs. So,
unfortunately, we are at an impasse. I am still planning on talking to
him tonight, and I would still like you all to particupate in the
time-limited meeting on Saturday to at least discuss this with him, but
things seem pretty bleak right now.
