I guess we can discuss a motion without it being seconded -- hopefully when folks get to their compuiters someone will second it ----- Original Message ----- From: "Erik Olson" <erik@thekrib.com> To: <aga-sc@thekrib.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2001 11:43 AM Subject: Re: Motion on TAG > > David's motion above will be Proposition 01-01. > > Though I cannot second it, I can discuss. TAG (including books etc.) and the Convention are the two main things we offer to members -- and we should try and make both of them terrific, and also self-supporting > > But perhaps a little more fleshing out of the proposal is needed: > > For one thing, would this person be able to hold a board position? The Board is the 5 members unless we want to expand it. Committee heads are appointed by the Board and serve, along with 3 of the Board of Directors, on the Executive Committee (our old Management Committee). The Board can designate any compensation we want for committee heads -- I believe our only limitation is that Officers cannot receive compensation. > > Another question is, would the duties of the editor include interfacing > with advertisers (should we need the increased revenue), or would that be > a separate person? i.e., how far would these responsibilities go? > Personally, I think that even if we didn't think we had the budget for > paying some of the staff AND printing in color, we could EASILY make this > up by selling a couple full page ads per issue. The Chairperson of the Publication Committee (actually, any committee chairperson) can designate members of their committee and decide if anyone is getting paid. I would think that the first thing the new Publication Committee/TAG Editor would do would be to draft someone to take charge of getting ads for TAG. > > > > I move the following: David Lass, Treasurer of AGA, be deputized to begin > > discussions with Aqua Design Amano (ADA) as to how AGA might formalize a > > relationship with him and his company. Dennis Hare could, I think, be the person to do this. He is retired from running his large store, the Aquarium Center in Baltimore, and on the Sunday lunch with Amano offered his warehouse as a place to keep the Amano stuff. > > - Erik > > PS: On the Amano front, I just finished a 2-day marathon editing session > on his talk from the convention. Sounds terrific!! I bet we can sell piles of them. How much do they cost us to produce -- just the cost per copy?
