Proposal 02-01 - Please vote YES or NO

I would like to put forth proposal 02-01:

  * Make available videotapes of the 2000 and 2001 conventions for $30 
    each, to be copied and shipped by myself.  

  * I will keep $20 per copy, to pay for mailing costs (envelopes, 
    postage, labels) and production costs (blank tapes, extra VCRs, source 
    tapes, equipment purchased specifically for the convention -- this 
    already numbers in the hundreds of dollars).  The AGA will receive $10 
    per tape.  Let's say this can be re-negotiated at any time should we
    wish to change the distribution method (i.e. there is a unified "AGA 
    Store").

  * This is all contingent on getting approval by every speaker, so
    first step after this proposal is approved would be to send each 
    speaker a copy of the tape with the request.


On CD-ROMs:  I received feedback on the CD-ROMs from Jack and Karen only.  
Jack was unable to get the sound to work on his Mac -- looks like that 
won't be easy until Quicktime 6.0 is released -- and Karen had a couple of 
technical snafus with her screensaver.  My conclusion is that the CD-ROM 
isn't quite ready for prime time, so I'm withdrawing them from the 
proposal for now.  Meanwhile, I have found that I can easily copy three 
tapes per day in 6-hour mode from a high-quality SVHS master, so I think 
videotapes ARE feasible.

On changes:  Karen suggested some improvements in my "contest winners"  
piece, specifically that we should have the slides of the tanks WITHOUT
the quotes covering up the frame.  I have corrected this.  Also, Michael
Rubin somehow managed to get ahold of Todd Stailey's Photography
powerpoint presentation, and graciously put the 84 meg file for download.
I have dropped in his original slides just like I did with Greg, Wim and
my own presentations, improving it dramatically.

Here is the total discussion on the issue in the MCM:

"Your ideas are still good ones, and very ambitious!  We will definitely
need more active members to carry them out. I agree about the copying
issue.  Most people are honest, and when they aren't, we get free
advertising!"  - Jack

"YOu know of course I would like a copy (since I was running around so
much, I will get to see more of the conference from your tape!) I think
lots of people will be interested in buying one and maybe we should make
them available and maybe it will make them want to attend the conference
next time!" - Charlene

As there has essentially been no more discussion on this issue since I
brought it up February 4, please vote yes or no on Proposal 02-01.
