Good news on a sad day. We've hit a number of our milestones so far. Today a big one. We have surpassed the number of paid registrations for 2K2. It took almost a week longer than I predicted (uh, so sue me ;-) ) Counting the regs paid by Seachem and Tunze, and not yet counting the 2nd membership expected from Maurice Cone, the total stands today at 39. Banquets and Field Trips, which bring no direct net revenue, stand at 33 and 25 respectively. Six more FTs and we'll need a third van. So let's hope for either 5 more (so we don't need a third van) or eleven more (to pay for a third van) -- at 45 I think we have to close off the FT or get a fourth van and ponder the logistics. While good news all around, these results do not bring us up to budget yet and the budget was rather conservative to begin with. But they *suggest* that, as we hoped, we will surpass the budget on registrations, room-nights, and banquets. If the vendors and donations come through, it should be a black ink convention. Today is a good day to count registrations -- a bad day for counting in general :-( Today I'm thinking about a lot of folks but especially Police Chief Jimmy Romito. And it won't hurt for you to hear about him. He was simply the smartest, sharpest cop I ever met and a hell of a manager too. Hardly a week has gone by in two years where I or one of my staff haven't said about this or that issue, "Who should we talk to about this? This is something we would have gotten Jimmy's help with." Whatever it was, after a few minutes discussion, Jimmy'd say, "Okay, here's what we're gonna do. . ." He was famous for those words, "Okay, here's what were gonna do. . ." And as he said it, he'd start dialing he phone or doing whatever was necessary to start things in motion or drag the info out of whoever was stonewalling, whatever . . . When they rushed to the scene that early morning, he lept out of the car before it was parked and ran straight into the building. He and two of his fellow officers were eventually trapped in Tower One carrying in a chair a person who was unable to walk. sh __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
