Re: Damaged books (fwd)

Gak, glad we're not dealing with this guy again. Diana e-mailed and said
she's never received a complaint in 10 years. I suggest we do NOT forward
this mail to Diana.

Erik,

I suspect you did not see Diana's reply to me, and I have included it.
I wish you would have sent me the original response; it would have caused
much less aggravation, and the content herein is in response to Ms.Walstad's
e-mail...

Why should I care whether Diana is paid to do this or not, and what
does that have to do with this matter? Should I have expected to receive
damaged goods because you are not, in Diana's words, a full-service
organization. I understand now that you do not deal with a business
shipper/customary shipping protocol, and that the books could be damaged by
the United States Postal Service, but this is not my fault or resposiblity,
and this "policy" of yours is not found anywhere on your site. I suggest
that you note that items for sale on the webpage might arrive in less than
new condition, and that you are not responsible for shipping damages (and I
am not sure that these damages occurred in shipping). Regarding the
additional $5.00 non-member fee, it was an honest oversight on my part, and
I apologize. Diana seems to be under the impression that I wanted some sort
of compensation; that I wanted a 'mint' copy and assumed there was a
guarantee of such, and that by offering free, timely shipping that she or
the AGA is not responsible for the condition of the merchandise. I only
wanted a 'good' copy, and wanted to send the damaged item back for exchange,
and thought this was reasonable (in regard to the Oriental book). I work
hard for the merchandise I choose to buy, and know when business is not
being done in good faith. You do not exonerate yourself simply because you
are a non-profit/non full-service organization that offers free shipping to
customers. You do as any businessman/woman or citizen who deals with the
United States Postal Service (who provides cheap book shipping-your bill
came to $2.25) does-you get a receipt, and when something like this happens,
you go to the post office, and you make a claim. You will receive both
books promptly, and due to Diana's terse/condescending response, you will
not receive another order.

Sincerely,

Greg A. Semenick

Dear Greg,
The AGA is not a full-service organization and I am not paid for this.
The AGA doesn't guarantees refunds or mint condition books. We provided
free shipping for you and sent the books on time.
You are welcome to write someone else in the AGA to override my
decision, which is to provide no compensation. I would suggest that you buy
books from another organization and pay for extra shipping.
    Sorry.

Diana,
Last week I placed an order for both The Aquarium Plant Handbook and Tropica Aquarium Plants, and I received both promptly.  The Oriental book is particularly beautiful.  Unfortunately, both books arrived slightly damaged, bent or crumpled.  I wanted to return the Tropica book, if possible, for I didn't think it added anything not already available on their website.  However, I love the Oriental book, and wanted a good copy for my collection.  How would I go about getting and exchange/refund? Many thanks.
Sincerely,
Greg Semenick
