Update -- Ghazanfar and Rick met witht he hotels yesterday and hammered out the specs for proposals from the hotels, which they expect to get soon so that we can see them this weekend -- hopefully tonight. Erik, if they are PDF files, they might be big. Marriot has the nicest facilities but seems unwilling to go below $99. They only went down that low when GWAPA said triple digits rates were absolutely no good and a deal breaker. Sheraton still looks good for $89 or possibly a bit lower -- we'll see what they send. There's a Best Western and a Holiday Inn under consideration also. For the proposals, GWAPA told the hotels to assume a 150 roomnights. That sounds high, but otoh, you have to consider what happens if 200 or more show up? If we do this right, we might not only have to close off the Field trip at a max but the convention registrations, too -- well, we can dream about such wonderful misfortunes ;-) I'm talking to Rick again at about 6 pm (EST) and hopefully the hotel proposals will have arrived by about that time. The dates will have to vary with diff hotels -- some can't make it one weekend, some can't make it the other. Even though we won't complete the negotiations until next week at the earlest, we might be able to pin down the dates this weekend -- if one hotel looks the clear choice to continue negotiating with. sh --- Kathy Olson <kathy@thekrib.com> wrote: > > I think $89 is really good, and we need to keep it there. > $99 definitely > seems higher for me, and with tax 89 will be in the 90's. > ===== S.
