Has he ever been to a convention which Ray was present?  I had this same 
impression before I saw Ray in person.

Have Rick attend the NEC.

Remind him that all those tables suddenly turn a rather shoddy little
vendor room (like last year) into something that people might actually
walk through.

Remind him that Ray gets a whole bunch of freebie manufacturer donations 
for the auction.
