Everyone is critical of Rataj except Rataj.<g> He has a habit of making up "new" species right left and center, with no real work to back them up. MANY of his "species" are found to be synonyms when others go back and actually do the work. The problem is that although Niels Jacobsen HAS done the work on Cryptocoryne to straighten that mess out to a large extent, as far as I know, no one has gone back to finish Echinodorus. We know Rataj made some BIG mistakes. (for instance, according to him, there is an Echinodorus from Africa) OTOH, a lot of what he has in the revision IS useful, and it's the best we've got. I'm sure I'll want it anyway, since I collect these things... I have the original revision with line drawings already.
