[AGA-sc] Board nominee

I think Larry would be good for the board and would agree. I think he has potential a few years down the road for being president (if one of the existing people don't want it, but you all are all so busy with your current tasks)

Now that being said when Larry had all these suggestions to me at Houston, I said you should be on the steering committee/board and he declined saying he has a new kid etc. Hopefully we would have better luck this time.

Now he is helping put on the ACA convention next year in Dallas, he is very involved with ACA.

I think it is worth a try. Now what do the vets on the board have to say. After all I am a newbie too! :)

I would like to put up for discussion the possibility of
bringing Larry Lampert onto the Board.

My thoughts are these, not necessarily in order of
importance:

We have called on Larry a number of times and he has never
shied from helping. In fact, he?s been darn responsive.

I am convinced that he has a very strong interest in the
health and future of AGA.

Some additional blood could be good. Larry is certainly
more of a creative thinker than, for example, me.

He has some motivational and management skills that he can
bring to the party -- and a volunteer org can always make
use of that stuff, no? But he's not a control freak. In
fact, in general, his style is probably more accommodating
than mine.

Part of what makes AGA so much fun is that you folks are
bright *and* easy to work with -- a nice combination. I
have found him to be like that too, so I think he would fit
in.

I know on occasion he hasn't seen things the same way as
others of us have -- but that's usually a good thing,
right? Okay, there was that idiotic thing with the contest
donations but I really think that was much more *out of
*character for him than in. (And, truth be told, I did not
realize at the time that I probably could have/should have
done more to turn him around.) Despite that donation thing,
having worked closely with him for over half a year or so
during AGA2K3 and a number of times since then, I can say
that, I found him to be thoughtful and dedicated to the
task at hand, and generally open-minded fellow.

Now I'm not at all suggesting that Larry be a replacement
for Kathy now that she has stepped down from the Board. As
soon as Kathy might be ready to rejoin, I don't think there
is any question that there is/will be room for her on the
Board. I can't even imagine it any other way.

I don't know if Larry would accept, I haven't talked to him
about it. However, I wouldn't bring this up if I didn't
think there was a good chance that he would.

Oh, and one last point if it isn't stating the obvious: so
far, we have had pretty good luck with Texans on the Board.
:-)
