Re: [AGA-sc] Fwd: RE: pic size

Whatever. This is why I always keep my originals (4000x3600) around. Just takes a couple commands to re-image everything in my archives at whatever sizes I'd like. And nowadays I don't really do "640 wide" anymore, but instead define the scales based on area: "307,200 square pixels" (viewable) or "1,920,000 square pixels" (big).

What he's saying is essentially what I'd been saying: he pre-scaled the images to 600 pixels-wide before uploading them to the gallery, and he's not going to re-upload them. What's odd is that he could have pre-scaled them to 1200 px wide and uploaded them, and the gallery would have rescaled them down AND kept the originals. But I guess that's the thinking of people who don't work with print much.

Anyway, that's his story and he's sticking to it.

Any other requests?

You can't view 640 picture at 800 resolution. This will
cause "pixilation"
and make the picture look like "shit". You can downsize
it but can't enlarge
it.

But can't you just set gallery to show something larger
than 640 at least as an option (supersize it) for viewers
that can handle it? That shouldn't involve any uploading?

All the pictures uploaded are already resized to save
the
space. Gallery
Software will resize uploaded pictures to whatever size
I
set it to.

For example:
If I take 1000pixel wide picture and uploaded to
Gallery
which is set to
show 640 at the most, it will take the picture and
resize
it but will still
take up space worth of 1000 wide pixels. In order to
save
the space on the
server, I resized them all prior to uploading.

I would have to re do entire gallery.

What would be involved in having the pics show up
larger?
